Outside of hunting Reds and those after Liam, Lachlan had been observing the Castle and surrounding areas. He'd witnessed his trainee, Raina, associating with Alex. Something he didn't approve of given the young man's darker nature from the other half of his parentage bloodline. He'd kept his distance at watching them as they went to Mac's for a time before the two had parted. Lachlan made it clear that he didn't want her associating with Alex anymore. He stated it out of his own concern, but it didn't come across as well and resulted in Raina comparing him to a 'dad' in his demands about who she could and couldn't associate with in her own time. Her statement touched a nerve a little more than Raina may really understand at this point with Lachlan before he'd dismissed her for the day.
