Dresden Files
Modern-day... People move in and around the city of Chicago without ever knowing what lurks in the shadows, without ever knowing the stuff of fairy tales and dreams are real. People believe only what they want to believe.
In reality... Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Angels, Faeries.. creatures you can't even begin to imagine.. they all exist, and they walk among us. They are often the cause for unsolved and unexplained mysteries, though mysterious forces work in the shadows to keep mankind largely unaware of the presence of the supernatural.
The White Council of Wizards finds itself pitched in a war against the Vampire Courts, a war which has moved from cold to room temperature. The balance of the world is being pitched ever towards chaos, and even the Sidhe Courts of the Faerie Realm are not untouched by the unfolding tensions.
Important Locations Within/Around/Outside of Chicago:
Click the link directly above for a more detailed page with various locations used within the realm of our game.
McAnally's Pub (Neutral Ground):
"Several steps down take patrons into the main room, colored in earthy browns and sea greens.
Items and structural parts are arranged around the number 13. Thirteen wooden pillars, elaborately carved with scenes out of Old World fairy tales, thirteen tables are scattered in the free spaces. The bar is crooked with thirteen stools, there are thirteen fans overhead. The entire place is designed to diffuse and refract random magical energies[1] that often gather around practitioners, who are most of its clientele."
The Castle:
A safe-haven for creatures of the supernatural, funded by a mysterious benefactor and watched over by Elena Drake.
Undertown:
Chicago was built on what is essentially a swamp, being close to the water level of Lake Michigan. Every year the city sank more and more into the muck of the foundations, so it took a lot of creative building to keep the city afloat. Roads were built with a latticework, and another road above the initial one, with the expectation that they would sink. Homes were designed the same way, with the front door built into the second floor, so that eventually it would be ground level as the house sank. There is now a whole city beneath the streets of Chicago, a place dubbed Undertown. There used to be rats and criminals lurking there, but they got ran out by evil fairies and monsters. It's a maze of lightless, rotting, precarious tunnels- and not exactly recommended for tourists. The only access is through various basement doorways and cellars around the city, the doors triggered by hidden switches.
Within Undertown is the Faerie Black market... a place for supernatural creatures to exchange services or goods where the prying eyes of mortals cannot see. Deep within the tunnels, if you know the route to get there, you can find anything you've ever wanted or needed... surviving the trip is
the trick.
Nevernever:
The Nevernever is the spirit world. It exists alongside our own as a sort of alternate dimension but its shape is not the same as the Mortal world. The Nevernever is vast, much, much larger than the mortal world. perhaps infinite. The Nevernever touches the Mortal world in places where they have something in common, a resonance of energies. If a point in the Nevernever is a dark and spooky place, then it touches a dark and spooky place in the mortal world. But, maybe five feet over it's only sad and that leads to a place in a cemetery on the other side of the country.
(For the sake of simplicity of the game.. no canon characters can or will be used by players other than the GM. Some events and settings from the books, comics, or TV series may be used, but the goal is to not to re-create them. )
