Case File 2018.01.24

A few hours after surgery, Gwen had lapsed in and out of consciousness-- long enough at one point for Liam to obtain the information he needed before leaving Rhea behind on guard duty. Rhea had kept watch since the two of them were left alone, a little tired herself from recent energy work. When the other woman came to and gave a strained greeting, it amazed them both a bit that the mechanism to shift the bed into a better seated position was functioning. Perhaps neither Gwen or Rhea herself knew how this conversation would go...Gwen putting her mask on and Rhea attempting to remain matter-of-fact when asking why the woman was in her city. Maybe not the best of ways to begin a talk, there was still unresolved issues and feelings lingering since the events of that cross country road trip and the last time they'd crossed paths in that abandoned hospital in the mountains.

Eventually she does ask where 'he' is, where Corvus is...it'd been on her mind since she last saw him when handing over the Anchor in Wanderland as price to enter its domain. Gwen had stolen it from the Vault when Kismet's Table broke. There was an odd smile that touched Gwen's lips when she did answer that question, stating the Captain was safe. That was a relief to Rhea, she knew that if Corvus were by the other woman's side that she wouldn't have ended up here in the hospital in the first place. If she could trust the other woman at all, it at least meant that Corvus' absence wasn't due to him being stolen away from her. She pressed Gwen to ask what was driving her to even be involve in the events that saw a ship wreck on Chicago's ports with a dead crew. Gwen just stated it was just a job, and leaned back to administer a dose of pain medication through the tubes connected to her body.

That wasn't an answer Rhea could believe as the full story, but she could tell the other woman was starting to end this discussion. It was easy to tell in Gwen's voice as she responded to Rhea's comment on how even without 'other' talents the doctors could do quite a bit at mending a person back together. Musing how amazing it is mortals get by... Whether Rhea's word about how some jobs are worth doing and others are not...or even that things didn't have to be this way fell on deaf ears remained to be seen. Gwen had already started to drift back to sleep, leaving Rhea to pick-up her vigil in guard duty once more. She was still angry at the other woman and not angry at the same time. Whatever came next would likely shed more light to the situation that had Elena and Liam out on the hunt now.
