Kenneth Atwood had been dealing with a lot since his grandmother passed. It'd only been weeks but things still had to be done, life kept moving. It still felt like his grams was still talking to him even though she'd passed on... He needed a break...and managed to move his old car out to the outskirts of town. He'd been about to head off when he'd heard the sound of a child crying, leaving the car he'd followed after the image of a small young boy running off into a run down house. It was upon entering the house that he'd found he wasn't alone, but it wasn't due to the young boy.
Rhea had been tracing down a rumor that seemed to have more weight than just idle gossip about some activity at the outskirts of the city. More specifically when checking into things, it was looking more like a small Red nest...something she needed to check out and clear out if possible. She'd been going through the house to search quietly until that silence was disrupted by another man clearly announcing his presence to anyone inside-- she'd moved quickly to cover the distance between herself and Ken to hush the man, but it was already too late. The silence, now disturbed, gave way to the appearance of several Reds looking to take herself and this other individual for dinner.
There wasn't a lot of time to explain, even as much as Ken would have liked to play twenty questions amidst the horror show unfolding. Rhea drew her power to blast the Red blocking the door to open up the exit and provide a way to escape-- she wasn't concerned as much about how she'd deal with this lot, it was more getting the bystander out of the crossfire. However, apparently there was more than the Reds present at this house-- another man with thick Scottish accent, Lachlan Blackbriar, descended upon the Reds gathered in the main room from above and took out several. The sudden appearance of this newcomer raised more questions certainly, but they would have to wait...for the moment it seemed to be unexpected aid in this situation.
The other man inside the house managed to take out several of the small group of Reds that'd been using that house, but one still managed to escape and tore through air to launch its attack at Ken and Rhea. She saw the danger, and pushing Ken behind her unleashed her power to catch the Red without it's flesh mask into a tornado of wind she ignited with the aid of her blade Rhodanthe. It was only moments before the aftermath was all said and done-- a brief moment past that when Lachlan came up to offer his congratulations to her display of talent.
Ken, rightfully so after the dramatic display of physically visible magic in such a short time, was very exasperated by the situation. For the moment, the other man that'd ended up walking right into that Red's nest was at the back of her mind, Rhea needed to determine who this other individual that'd displayed a controlled use of power was in order to ensure both her and Ken remained safe. It'd seemed that Ken had seen and heard a young boy around the house the Reds had taken over, and had given chase to find the kid but there was no one there. That much Lachlan confirmed from his own search he'd made in comparison to what Rhea herself knew from searching the area.
It seemed that Ken had talent, but this was not the area or the time to go into details. The other man, Lachlan, seemed content that the situation had been resolved and departed...walking off and vanishing under a veil. He spoke more knowingly than she was comfortable with...even if the word of her being Warden in Chicago had become more commonplace. Turning her attention to Ken she passed him a card with an address to Mac's to send him somewhere safe-- the safest place she knew for the moment as there was more loose ends to tie up here. Her number for a phone she got messages on the old fashioned way was on the other side-- something he could use to try and contact her later...there was going to be a lot to discuss with Liam later about this night.
Alex had decided to get out of the Castle tonight...heading to Mac's for a late dinner and lingering around long after to go over some books he'd brought with him in the meantime. It was a fair time later that Ken managed to head into Mac's-- certainly in need of the drink he ordered after everything he'd just seen. Something about the man's mannerisms catching Alex's attention to provide enough curiosity to open up a conversation. The man, Ken, was definitely new to the non-mundane aspect of life. They'd talked for a bit regarding what was more or less the pros and cons to the magical side of life. Alex noted that the card the man had to the place had Rhea's contact info...and would be a question for the Warden later. For now, he did what he could to alleviate some confusion and offer to speak with Ken again to continue the conversation after he'd had time to rest and process the events of the night.
