Liam had figured it would only be a matter of time before another group came looking for the information tied to his bones. He’d been aware that a trap was set after a decoy set of notes had gone missing, the ones Alex had run off with— it didn’t give much time to prepare, but he’d managed to prepare Rhea enough to ensure Elena was also prepared. He’d followed the corpse messenger to Montrose Cemetery to the ones that’d taken Alex. Liam had let The Corpsetaker make her spiel as she presented Alex, bound and unable to see. He’d stalled just enough for Rhea to get into position to take a swipe at removing Millie’s head. Rhea may have managed to slip in and get the drop on The Corpsetaker, but the other woman managed to move away just in time to avoid losing her head, but taking a good gash to the scalp and losing the top of her ear. The other woman didn’t take kindly to the attack and launched Rhea back into the mausoleum doors as around a hundred corpses divided themselves to move to kill Rhea and Liam. In the background Grevane kept a beat thrumming with power as the corpses were directed to take out both Liam and Rhea as requested. Liam worked his best to take on the corpses that were set against him, but even as the sun set to reveal the sigils of ghost dust painted on his face for protection, the rumbling of the coming rain was rolling in as well.
Grevane had been too focused on keeping Rhea pressed away from joining up with the others as Alex had managed to get free with Liam’s help to join in the fight— he didn’t have much warning when the rifle round struck his hand with the book causing his spell to cease and the corpses to drop to the ground once again lifeless. Rhea witnessed the same as Alex a brief pause in the fight as the corpses fell away from the fray but Liam and The Corpsetaker paused in their fight, eyes locked with each other for a moment. A moment that passed before Liam’s blade ran through the body of the other woman’s gut to inflict a fatal blow. Only moments later the thunder ripped through the air and The Lost followed by Sterling, the lost King of Faeries, coming to claim the soul from the one that broke Kismet’s Table. It was only a brief moment of ripping the soul from his body…and then they were gone— gone before anyone could act.
Rhea, Elena and Alex took their own moment of disbelief to assess the scene that’d just played out before them…The Lost had killed Liam. …or that would have been the case if not for the fact that the would-be Liam by way of Corpsetaker hadn’t been in the body at the time it happened. By some odd luck, she had switched with the intent to leave Liam in her dying body. The plan didn’t work out as well for her, not knowing and undead host would come to claim the soul in the shell she inhabited. It took a moment for the others to realize that the dying woman had developed a far more British vocabulary in the span of moments to piece together the switch. The three worked together to help Liam’s dying shell to return to his actual body via way of a Death Curse. It was several long breathless moments before he finally breathed once more and…for a bloody Halloween night could return home.
