LIBRARY

Liam had worked as much or more upon returning to Chicago with the others. The Castle, had become his new residence, nervous as he was about that but left with little choice since his power was still unrestored to him even though he'd gotten all the fragment parts back. For now it was a strong protection at night against The Lost, he remained skeptical about it simply being signed over to Elena after the White Court King cut ties with them...likely over the death of his sister, Delilah. When not training Alex or dealing with his work as a Senior Councilor during a time of war...he was looking to track Gwen or find another way to reclaim his power.

Rhea found him in the Castle library, suspecting him to be there as she brought a book she'd managed to locate for him. She'd been adjusting to being back home herself...working to get back into a usual routine but not quite finding it that easy. Much had changed since her time away from Chicago. A frustration she couldn't hold in any longer after several months, surprising it was even this long before she stated it to anyone outside her own inner thoughts. Liam summed it up that they were all at war with the vampire courts and vigilance was the best she could offer-- protecting those that need it when and where she could, basically doing her job. Perhaps not a consoling way to phrase it, but perhaps it was what she needed to hear, to know she was doing all she could at the moment and needed to continue that. The way he described each of them: Elena a Knight of the Cross, Alex a Scion of two dangerous lines, and Liam was just Liam. It showed how much of a mixed lot they were, but it was her mixed bag of a family that she cared about so much. She teased him about downplaying himself before heading out to grab dinner for them all. Liam couldn't go out at night and Alex had been less than motivated to do more than the needful...Elena it just depended on her schedule. He teased her about her cooking...it seems the burnt Christmas tree cookies had reached him even if he hadn't been present that night. They'd had time to better allow Rhea to work at mending and assisting with Liam's rehabilitation for his right wrist, damage sustained from a gladiator beast back in Vegas attempting to have it for a snack. They were all recovering from many things...it was just going to take some time.

COMMON ROOM LOUNGE

The road trip had taken its toll on Alex. In the end, Gwen had gotten away from their last stop at the mountainside hospital. To his credit, he didn't throw a tantrum, but he still carried the frustrated rage within...wanting justice or vengeance for the loss of his love. Upon their return to Chicago...the Castle...what had been home before it all started for a time. He'd sought out Monty to get answers since they'd last crossed paths in the hospital in Alabama. Delilah was dead...apparently becoming human and unable to feed-- love had killed her. He'd spent the time after that news lashing out at those around to blame for it...Gwen...Liam...himself. Since the revelation of what he was...part human and demon, Alex had come to some peaceful coexistence with both halves. He'd fallen into a routine of sorts after the numbness of life set in...he was going through the motions of living, but not much more. He'd train with Liam regularly. Though avoid social interaction with the others for the most part. Some days were better than others, but for the days that hit hard...he found some remedy in a few drinks, like the ones he made this night by the bar in the lounge. At one point he slipped outside to have a cigarette, always a touch hesitant to open the door at night as if a swarm of the Lost would come to take him. He didn't drown himself in drink, not like he might have done in the past. He'd found faith again in God...and it helped a bit, but there were still nights that he just had to deal with the pain. Even if the thought of dying himself just to be with her again crossed his mind, it wasn't an option-- he wouldn't tarnish the life Delilah had given him. She'd protected him because she'd loved him and to throw that life away would dishonor her memory. He'd eventually slip back inside when dinner was brought in to take some back up to his room. He'd eat, sleep, and get up just in time for training...showing up unshowered and in pajamas. For now it was his routine for dealing with the absence of Delilah in his life.
