It didn't take long for the obvious to happen, once the driver of a fan boat arrived to take them back to the Elizabeth House the two boarded in hopes of making it back to solid ground quickly. However, the boat stopped about ten minutes out as spotlights flooded the darkness to blind them as a shotgun was leveled on the two of them. Alex launched to the attack and knocked the man overboard into the dark waters below as three red dots appeared on Rhea's chest. She hadn't known how many were present with the blinding light until then, and Alex had the other Red tangled in a fight underwater. He'd given a good fight, but he'd also taken a rifle shot through the lower back out his abdomen. It appeared since these were Reds that the group was only there for Rhea...before she'd have to consider how to negotiate his safety-- help in an unexpected form arrived. Haplan had boarded the other boat with the former sheriff, Chris Johnston. The rest of the aid came in the form of Freddie Bones...in the shape of a weregator. The ambush party being ambushed themselves didn't have much of a chance in their compromised situation. Only the former sheriff, Chris, walked away as the rest of the Reds and vampire witnesses were killed. It left Happy and Freddie able to get through the Water Maze with Alex to tend to his injuries. Without the chance arrival of Jack from the Lion Queen bringing medical supplies to help...even between Liam's current power and Rhea's quirky healing it wouldn't have gone as well as it had-- they'd been lucky.
